Overview

Wet ground mica powder is natural muscovite mica delaminated in water to a fine, bright, platy powder. Because the flakes are slid apart rather than crushed, the 325 mesh grade keeps a high aspect ratio, a smooth lamellar surface and a pearlescent lustre that dry-ground mica cannot match. The result is a functional filler that reinforces, insulates, blocks moisture and resists heat in one material.

Wedge Industries Limited supplies wet ground mica powder 325 mesh with a whiteness of 90, a median particle size (D50) of 25.9 µm, 325 mesh residue of only 1.9 % and an iron oxide content of 0.05 % Fe₂O₃. The chemistry — 51.0 % SiO₂ and 34.5 % Al₂O₃ — is that of a clean, high-alumina muscovite, which is what gives the powder its electrical resistance, thermal stability and chemical inertness.

The grade is sold for two families of use that match the Wedge Insulation catalogue: thermal insulation — heat-resistant coatings, intumescent and fire-retardant compounds, refractory mortars, welding flux and insulating boards — and electrical insulation — mica paper and tape, insulating varnishes, cable fillers and flame-retardant polymer compounds. It is equally used as a barrier pigment in anti-corrosion paints, as a reinforcing filler in plastics and rubber, and in joint compounds and drilling fluids.

Wet ground mica powder price

Wedge Industries Limited offers wet ground mica powder 325 mesh at $680 per MT CIF (approximately ₹60,000 per MT at ₹88/$, indicative), packed in 25 kg bags. The CIF price applies to a full 20′ container of 26 MT, which is $17,680 per container; per bag that works out to roughly $17 or ₹1,500. The INR figure is fixed at the exchange rate on the date of the pro-forma invoice.

Smaller lots for delivery within India, mixed containers with other Wedge insulation materials, and other mesh sizes (for example 200, 400, 600 or 800 mesh) are quoted on request. Send the quantity, destination port or city and end application for a firm quotation in ₹ INR and $ USD.

Applications

Thermal insulation and fire protection

  • Heat-resistant and high-temperature coatings — mica flakes form an overlapping barrier that reflects radiant heat and holds the film together as organic binders degrade.
  • Intumescent and fire-retardant compounds — a non-combustible, platy filler that reinforces the char and limits shrinkage in fire-protective coatings, mastics and sealants, complementing the Wedge passive fire protection range.
  • Welding electrode coatings — a traditional flux constituent that improves arc stability and slag formation.
  • Refractory mortars, insulating boards and heat-shield compounds — as an inert, low-density mineral filler alongside calcium silicate and high-temperature insulation systems.
  • Roofing and bitumen products — anti-stick dusting and reinforcement of felts and membranes.

Electrical insulation

  • Mica paper and mica tape — raw material for reconstituted mica insulation used in motors, generators, transformers and fire-resistant cables.
  • Insulating varnishes, enamels and potting compounds — raises dielectric strength and arc resistance.
  • Flame-retardant and halogen-free polymer compounds — a functional filler in PP, PA, PBT and cable sheathing that improves dimensional stability and heat deflection.
  • Heating elements and appliances — insulating fillers for heater plates and switchgear parts.

Other industrial uses

  • Anti-corrosion and marine paints (barrier pigment, reduced moisture vapour transmission, better weathering).
  • Plastics and rubber reinforcement — improves stiffness, reduces warpage and shrinkage.
  • Joint compounds, textured finishes and wall putty — crack resistance and workability.
  • Oil-well drilling fluids as a lost-circulation material.
  • Pearlescent pigment substrate and cosmetic-grade mica, subject to separate specification.

How to use and dose wet ground mica powder

  • Paints and coatings — typically 5–15 % by weight of the total formulation, added under high-speed dispersion; the platy shape disperses easily and does not need grinding.
  • Polymer compounds — 10–40 % loading depending on stiffness and flame-retardant targets; pre-dry the compound as normal, the mica itself carries only 0.30 % moisture.
  • Intumescent and fire-retardant mastics — 5–20 % as a char reinforcer; combine with ammonium polyphosphate systems as per your formulation.
  • Welding flux — dose as per electrode recipe; the 325 mesh grade gives a smooth coating.
  • Store bags dry and off the floor. Mica is chemically inert, non-combustible and insoluble in water, acids and alkalis under normal conditions; use ordinary dust control when handling powder.

  • Every value on this page is from the batch certificate of analysis; a certificate accompanies each shipment and samples are available before order.
  • Transparent pricing: $680 per MT CIF for a 26 MT container in 25 kg bags, with ₹ INR pricing for Indian buyers.
  • Export to 45+ countries across the Gulf, Europe, Africa and South East Asia; Incoterms EXW, FOB, CIF and DAP offered; export documentation and compliance support through group company ZJELL Limited.
  • Offices and warehousing in India (Gurugram and Faridabad) with group companies in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

Frequently asked questions

What is wet ground mica powder?

Wet ground mica powder is muscovite mica that has been ground in water rather than dry-milled. Wet grinding slides the mica layers apart instead of shattering them, so the particles keep a high aspect ratio, a smooth platy surface and a bright pearlescent lustre. Wedge supplies a 325 mesh grade with whiteness 90, D50 of 26 micron and 325 mesh residue of 1.9 percent.

What is the price of wet ground mica powder?

Wedge Industries Limited offers wet ground mica powder 325 mesh at USD 680 per metric tonne CIF, packed in 25 kg bags, on a full-container basis of 26 MT per 20-foot container. Indicatively this is about INR 60,000 per MT at INR 88 to the dollar; the INR price is fixed at the exchange rate on the date of the pro-forma invoice. Smaller lots and ex-works India supply are quoted on request.

Is 325 mesh mica powder suitable for electrical insulation?

Yes. Muscovite mica combines high dielectric strength with very low dielectric loss and does not conduct electricity, which is why mica is the base of mica paper, mica tape, commutator segments and heater insulation. This 325 mesh grade is sold as a filler and raw material for mica paper, flame-retardant and insulating compounds, cable fillers and electrical-grade coatings; the low iron content of 0.05 percent Fe2O3 helps keep electrical losses low.

What temperature can wet ground mica powder withstand?

Muscovite mica is stable in continuous service to roughly 500 degrees Celsius and only begins to lose its structural water at higher temperatures, so it is used as a heat-resistant filler in high-temperature coatings, intumescent and fire-retardant systems, welding electrode flux, refractory mortars and heat-shield compounds. The batch certificate for this grade reports a moisture content of 0.30 percent at 110 degrees Celsius.

What is the difference between wet ground and dry ground mica?

Dry ground mica is cheaper but the particles are more fragmented, with lower aspect ratio, rougher edges and a duller colour. Wet ground mica keeps thin, flat, high-aspect-ratio flakes with a smooth surface, higher brightness and better sheen. For paints, plastics, cosmetics-grade pearlescent bases and electrical applications where barrier performance, lustre or a low iron content matter, wet ground mica is the grade to specify.

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?

The CIF price of USD 680 per MT is for one 20-foot container of 26 MT, which is 1,040 bags of 25 kg. Smaller quantities for delivery within India are quoted ex-works or delivered. Lead time depends on the destination port and the stock position at the time of order; send the quantity and port and Wedge Industries Limited will confirm a shipment date with the quotation.
