WedgeVac vacuum insulated cold box — standard sizes
Core: fire class A1 non-combustible fumed silica, vacuum-sealed in a high gas-barrier film. Thermal conductivity below 0.004 W/mK — the lowest of any insulation material available. Operating environment −90°C to +80°C. Passes drop, vibration and collision testing.

How to specify the right insulated box
Four inputs decide the box. Send us these and we will size the insulation and the coolant for you.
- Payload temperature. −70°C (dry ice) · −21°C (frozen) · 2–8°C (chilled / pharma) · 15–25°C (controlled room temperature) · hot holding.
- Duration. Door-to-door hours including transit, handling and buffer. A 48-hour lane and a 120-hour lane are different boxes.
- Ambient profile. An Indian summer lane peaking above 40°C is a far harder duty than a monsoon or winter lane. This is the input most buyers get wrong.
- Payload volume and reuse. Single-trip EPS, or a reusable EPP / VIP box on a return loop — the reuse count usually decides the economics.

Frequently asked questions
How long can an insulated box hold 2–8°C?
The WedgeVac vacuum-insulated cold box holds 2–8°C for 70–90 hours in the standard VIP+PU build and 90–120 hours in the VIP+PET+EPP build, with the correct PCM coolant payload. An EPS or thermocol box of the same size holds a fraction of that. The exact figure depends on your ambient profile, which is why we model each lane rather than quote one headline number.
What is the difference between a VIP box and an EPS or thermocol box?
A vacuum insulation panel has a thermal conductivity below 0.004 W/mK. Conventional PU foam is around 0.023 W/mK, and EPS is higher still. Through the same 50 mm wall, a VIP admits roughly five times less heat than PU — a thinner wall, more payload volume inside the same external footprint, and far less gel pack or dry ice to carry.
Which PCM temperature should I use?
Wedge supplies phase-change coolants at −21°C, 0°C, +5°C and +22°C. Frozen payloads use −21°C; 2–8°C pharma lanes typically use 0°C or +5°C; controlled-room-temperature (15–25°C) lanes use +22°C. The PCM must be conditioned correctly before packing — we supply the conditioning and packout instructions with every system.
Can you supply a dry-ice shipper for −70°C?
Yes. The WedgeVac VIP core is rated for an operating environment from −90°C to +80°C, so it is suitable for dry-ice and deep-frozen shipping. Dry-ice shippers require venting and dangerous-goods documentation — we supply both the box and the packing configuration.
Do you supply EPS-free, recyclable insulated packaging?
Yes. The paper and corrugated insulated liner range is EPS-free and curbside recyclable, aimed at D2C food, meal kits and brands under Extended Producer Responsibility obligations. Reusable EPP and VIP boxes are the other route — the packaging is recovered and reused rather than disposed of.
