Roof Heat Insulation – High-Performance Roof Insulation Boards

Roof Heat Insulation – High-performance industrial insulation and fire protection material engineered by Wedge Insulation for demanding thermal, fire protection, and energy efficiency requirements.

Up to 61% of a building’s summer cooling load enters through an uninsulated roof. Wedge roof heat insulation stops that heat at the source. Our flagship roof heat insulation board, Wedge IR100, is a rigid, closed-cell composite board with a thermal conductivity of just 0.022 W/m·K — keeping interiors cooler in summer, warmer in winter, and cutting energy bills by 30–40%.

Manufactured by Wedge Industries Limited and supplied across India and to 45+ export markets, our roof heat insulation systems suit RCC terraces, metal sheet roofs, factory sheds, prefab structures and commercial buildings — with options certified non-combustible (Euro Class A1) for fire-critical projects.

What Is Roof Heat Insulation?

Roof heat insulation is a layer of low-conductivity material installed on or under the roof to slow the transfer of heat between the outside and the indoor space. Because the roof receives the most direct solar radiation of any building surface, it is the single most effective place to insulate. A well-insulated roof acts as a barrier to heat, air, moisture and solar radiation — reducing air-conditioning costs in summer, heat loss in winter, and condensation or mould all year round.

The lower the thermal conductivity (λ) and the higher the R-value of the material, the better it insulates. As a rule of thumb, an R-30 material insulates roughly three times better than R-10. This is why choosing the right roof heat insulation board matters more than simply adding thickness.

Wedge IR100 – Rigid Closed-Cell Roof Heat Insulation Board

Wedge IR100 is a rigid, closed-cell, high-strength composite board engineered for external roof and wall insulation. It is built by continuous lamination of a high-density foam core between protective facers, giving it low thermal conductivity together with high compressive strength — so it carries foot traffic and structural loads while staying lightweight, moisture-resistant and durable. At 50 mm thickness it achieves a 20°C temperature difference across the board, outperforming traditional roof heat insulation materials.

Why IR100 is ideal for roofs

  • Closed-cell structure with water absorption below 0.5% — will not soak up rain or rot
  • Continuous lamination of high-density foam between protective facers for low conductivity and high strength
  • Eco-friendly, reduced-GWP blowing agents
  • Cut to size on order — lengths 500–3000 mm, widths 300–1200 mm
  • Service life of 25–30 years with a 10-year extendable warranty

Key Benefits of Wedge Roof Heat Insulation

  • Cuts cooling load: blocks up to 61% of the heat that enters through an uninsulated roof in summer.
  • Saves 30–40% energy: a well-insulated envelope sharply reduces air-conditioning and heating costs.
  • High thermal performance + strength: low λ with the mechanical strength to take loads and foot traffic.
  • Total barrier: resists heat, air, wind, moisture and solar radiation in one layer.
  • Prevents mould: controls vapour transmission and condensation, protecting the structure.
  • Lower carbon footprint: less energy use means lower CO₂ emissions and running cost.
  • Fire-safe options: non-combustible Euro Class A1 grades available for fire-rated roofs and ceilings.

Where Roof Heat Insulation Is Used

  • Flat & pitched RCC roofs and terraces
  • Metal / profiled sheet roofs and factory sheds
  • Prefab and PEB (pre-engineered) buildings
  • Commercial, residential and industrial roofs
  • Roof-deck build-ups, sandwich panels and external façades
  • Cold storage and temperature-controlled roofs

Our Full Range of Roof Insulation Materials

Different roofs need different solutions. Alongside Wedge IR100, Wedge Industries Limited supplies a complete range of roof heat insulation materials so we can match performance, fire rating and budget to your project:

  • Rigid boards & PIR/PU foam — highest thermal resistance per mm for flat roofs and decks.
  • Rockwool / mineral wool blankets & boards — non-combustible A1, with acoustic insulation for metal roofs.
  • Aerogel blankets & paperultra-thin, λ as low as 0.021 W/m·K where space is tight.
  • XPS & EPS boards — cost-effective moisture-resistant boards for terrace insulation.

How Roof Heat Insulation Works

Heat moves through a roof by conduction, convection and radiation. Insulating materials work by trapping still air or gas in millions of tiny pores, which interrupts every one of these heat-transfer paths. The finer and more closed the cell structure, the lower the conductivity — which is exactly how a 50 mm Wedge IR100 board can hold a 20°C difference between a scorching roof surface and a comfortable interior.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which is the best material for roof heat insulation in India?

For most flat RCC roofs, a rigid closed-cell board such as Wedge IR100 gives the best balance of thermal performance, strength and durability. For metal sheet roofs or fire-rated projects, non-combustible rockwool or calcium silicate is often preferred. Wedge supplies all of these and will recommend the right one for your roof.

Q: How much heat does roof insulation actually stop?

An uninsulated roof can account for up to 61% of summer cooling losses. A properly insulated roof typically reduces total building energy consumption by 30–40%.

Q: What thickness of roof heat insulation do I need?

It depends on your climate and target U-value. A 50 mm Wedge IR100 board delivers an R-value of 2.27 m²·K/W; thicker boards or layered build-ups are available for stricter requirements. Share your roof area and location for a tailored recommendation.

Q: Is Wedge roof insulation waterproof and fire-safe?

Wedge IR100 is closed-cell with water absorption below 0.5%, so it resists moisture. For fire-critical roofs and ceilings we offer non-combustible Euro Class A1 grades rated up to 240 minutes.

Q: Can it be used on metal sheet and factory shed roofs?

Yes. Our roof heat insulation range covers flat and pitched RCC roofs, metal/profiled sheet roofs, factory sheds, prefab and PEB structures.

Q: Do you deliver across India and export?

Yes. Wedge Industries Limited supplies pan-India and exports to 45+ countries, including the Gulf, Europe, Africa and South-East Asia.
