Calcium Silicate High Temperature Insulation Paste W-CSP 1000 — Industrial-Grade 1000°C Insulation Paste

Overview

W-CSP 1000 is the workhorse grade of the Wedge calcium silicate insulation powder range. Rated for continuous service at 1000°C, it is engineered for the most demanding industrial insulation applications — steel plant ladles, cement kiln shells, aluminium smelter equipment, and petrochemical columns. When mixed with water and sodium silicate, it forms a trowelable paste that cures to deliver the same thermo-mechanical performance as Wedge W-LD 1000 and HD280 factory-pressed boards, with the added advantage of conforming to any surface shape.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Thermal conductivity 0.063 W/mK at 100°C, only 0.153 W/mK at 600°C — maintains effective insulation across the full 100–1000°C operating range
  • 1000°C continuous service rating — covers the majority of industrial insulation applications in steel, cement, glass, and petrochemical sectors
  • Cured density 255–300 kg/m³ with ≥1.4 MPa compressive strength — the strongest paste grade, capable of supporting cladding and withstanding mechanical loads
  • Equivalent to W-LD 1000 and HD280 boards — verified thermal conductivity at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600°C per ASTM C518/EN 12667
  • Chemical resistance — inert to CO, H₂, CH₄, NH₃, N₂; non-reactive with carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium at operating temperature
  • Non-combustible EN 13501-1 Class A1 — no fire load contribution, safe for use in confined plant areas
  • Zero cutting waste — paste is mixed on-site to the exact quantity needed; no offcuts, no material scrap
  • Thermal shock resistant — withstands rapid cycling between ambient and 1000°C without cracking

Applications

  • Steel & Metals: Ladle backup insulation, tundish insulation, induction furnace casings, continuous casting rolls, heat treatment furnaces, torpedo ladle insulation
  • Cement & Glass: Rotary kiln shell insulation, cyclone separator linings, clinker cooler insulation, glass melting furnace backup
  • Power Generation: Boiler casings, superheater insulation, turbine casings, exhaust systems, FGD equipment
  • Petrochemical & Refining: Column insulation, reactor vessel insulation, irregular pipe junctions, valve bodies, expansion joint filling
  • Ceramic Industry: Tunnel kiln insulation, shuttle kiln backup, chamber furnace insulation

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is W-CSP 1000 the most popular grade?

The 1000°C rating covers the vast majority of industrial insulation needs — steel ladles, cement kilns, power plant boilers, and petrochemical equipment. It offers the highest compressive strength (≥1.4 MPa) of the paste range while maintaining low thermal conductivity across the full 100–600°C operating window.

Can I use W-CSP 1000 paste to repair existing calcium silicate board insulation?

Yes. W-CSP 1000 paste bonds directly to existing calcium silicate surfaces, making it ideal for patching damaged sections, filling gaps between boards, and insulating areas where replacement boards cannot be fitted.

What coverage does 25 kg of W-CSP 1000 provide?

At 25 mm application thickness and typical cured density, one 25 kg bag yields approximately 0.35–0.40 m² of insulated surface. Coverage varies with applied thickness and mixing ratio.

Is the sodium silicate binder supplied with the powder?

Sodium silicate is supplied separately in 200 kg / 250 litre HDPE drums (density 1.50–1.55 g/cm³). We can supply both materials together or source the sodium silicate locally to reduce shipping costs on international orders.
