Overview
Aerogel 2 cm is the 20 mm thickness of the WedGel WAG400 silica aerogel insulation blanket — the process-temperature grade for steam, hot-water, hot-oil and thermic-fluid lines, vessels and building retrofits up to 400 °C. Nanoporous silica held in a fibre reinforcement gives a thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m·K at 25 °C (ASTM C177), so a single 20 mm layer does the work of 45–50 mm of mineral wool while keeping the cladding diameter small, the weight on supports low and the surface hydrophobic.
Wedge Industries Limited sells aerogel 2 cm by the square metre at ₹4,650/m² ($48). WAG400 is the lower-density, lower-cost member of the WedGel family — the same aerogel chemistry as the 650 °C grades, specified where surface temperatures stay below 400 °C. Supplied plain in rolls and cut sheets; aluminium-foil and PET laminates are made to order.

Applications
- Process pipework — steam, condensate, hot-water, hot-oil and thermic-fluid lines up to 400 °C; one 20 mm wrap replaces 50 mm of wool on crowded pipe racks. See high-temperature insulation.
- Vessels, tanks and heat exchangers — reactors, storage tanks, dryers and exchanger shells where weight and space are limited.
- Building retrofits — external walls, roofs, terraces and floor slabs where a thick single layer is wanted without losing floor area; see prefab buildings and data centre insulation.
- Cold and chilled lines — chilled-water and refrigeration pipework down to −50 °C, where the hydrophobic blanket resists condensation damage.
- Removable jackets and covers — the core for valve, flange and tank jackets; see the aerogel water-tank cover.
Installation
- Cut with a sharp knife or shears; wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask, as dry aerogel sheds fine dust.
- Wrap pipes and vessels with tightly butted joints; on small-bore pipes and tight radii use two layers of 10 mm rather than forcing the 20 mm blanket.
- Secure with stainless-steel bands, wire or high-temperature tape at about 300 mm centres, then fit metal, foil or fabric cladding.
- Do not compress the blanket below 80 % of its thickness, as compression raises conductivity.
A written application guide and the grade TDS are supplied with every order.

Frequently asked questions
What is aerogel 2 cm?
Aerogel 2 cm is a 20 mm thick flexible silica aerogel insulation blanket in the WedGel WAG400 grade, sold per square metre. It has a thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m.K at 25 C, a continuous service range of minus 50 C to plus 400 C and a density of about 180 kg/m3. Two centimetres of aerogel give roughly the insulation of 4 to 5 cm of mineral wool, so it is used where a thick, high-performance single layer is wanted on process pipes, vessels and building retrofits.
What is the price of 20 mm aerogel blanket per square metre?
Wedge Industries Limited offers aerogel 2 cm in the WedGel WAG400 grade at INR 4,650 per square metre, about USD 48 per m2 or INR 432 per square foot. The price is ex-works Faridabad and excludes 18 percent GST. Buy online on this page by the square metre, or ask for a project price on larger quantities and cut sheets.
Why choose WAG400 rather than the 650 C grade?
WAG400 is the process-temperature grade: the same 0.018 W/m.K silica aerogel, rated to 400 C instead of 650 C, at a lower density of 180 kg/m3 and a lower cost. It covers steam, hot-water, hot-oil and thermic-fluid lines, process vessels and building retrofits where surface temperatures stay below 400 C. For furnaces, exhausts and lines above 400 C choose the WedGel 650 grades.
How much heat does 2 cm of aerogel save compared with mineral wool?
At 0.018 W/m.K, 20 mm of aerogel has about the same thermal resistance as 45 to 50 mm of mineral wool at 0.040 W/m.K. On a 100 C hot-water line that means the same heat loss from a 20 mm wrap as from a 50 mm wool wrap, with a smaller cladding diameter, less weight on the supports and a hydrophobic layer that limits corrosion under insulation.
Is 20 mm aerogel blanket fireproof and waterproof?
Silica aerogel is inorganic and non-combustible. WedGel blankets are Class A to ASTM E84 and EN 13501-1 and tested to ISO 1182. They are hydrophobic, with over 99 percent water repellency to GB/T 10299, yet vapour-permeable, so trapped moisture escapes and corrosion under insulation on steel pipework is reduced.
How is 2 cm aerogel blanket installed?
Cut with a sharp knife or shears, wearing gloves and a dust mask. Wrap pipes and vessels with tightly butted joints and secure with stainless-steel bands or wire at about 300 mm centres, then fit metal, foil or fabric cladding. On tight radii use two layers of 10 mm aerogel 1 cm rather than forcing the 20 mm blanket. Do not compress below 80 percent of the thickness. An application guide and a technical data sheet are supplied with every order.
