Overview
Aerogel tape is WedGel WAG650 silica aerogel blanket slit into narrow strips and wound on a core, so the thinnest high-performance insulation available can be wrapped, laid or packed exactly where a full-width blanket will not go. Each strip keeps the blanket’s nanoporous silica structure: a thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m·K at 25 °C rising to 0.068 W/m·K at 600 °C (ASTM C177), a service range of −50 °C to +650 °C and over 99 % water repellency while remaining vapour-permeable.
Wedge Industries Limited stocks six sizes — 10, 20 and 50 mm widths in 2 mm and 3 mm thickness — and slits other widths, 5 and 10 mm thicknesses and die-cut gaskets to order from the same WAG650 material. The tape is supplied plain; self-adhesive on a release liner, aluminium-foil-faced and PET-faced versions are made on request.

Applications
- Pipe fittings, flanges and valves — wrap elbows, tees and flange faces up to 650 °C where blanket cannot be shaped neatly; thin hydrophobic layers help control corrosion under insulation. See high-temperature insulation.
- Thermal breaks and spacers — between steel brackets and insulated panels, under cladding rails, around cold-storage door frames and in prefab building joints to stop thermal bridging.
- EV batteries and energy storage — cell-to-cell spacers, busbar wraps and module edge gaskets; pair with the EV battery thermal and fire protection range.
- Ovens, dryers and appliances — door seals, panel edge gaskets and burner surrounds where a 2–3 mm strip replaces bulky rope or wool.
- Instrumentation and small-bore lines — tracing lines, sample lines and sensor wells where a 10 mm tape is the only insulation that fits.
Installation
- Clean the surface of oil, loose scale and water; wear gloves and a dust mask when cutting, as dry aerogel sheds fine dust.
- For pipes and fittings, spiral-wrap with a 50 % overlap for a continuous double layer, or butt-wrap for a single thickness; keep the tape under light tension without compressing it.
- For gaskets and thermal breaks, lay the tape flat and clamp through it; do not compress below 80 % of its thickness, as compression raises conductivity.
- Secure ends with stainless-steel wire, bands or high-temperature tape, then fit cladding, foil or fabric to protect the surface where it is exposed.
- Two wraps of 2 mm tape give about the same insulation as 4 mm of blanket; add layers rather than compressing a thicker tape into a tight gap.

Frequently asked questions
What is aerogel tape?
Aerogel tape is a narrow strip of flexible silica aerogel insulation, slit from WedGel WAG650 aerogel blanket and wound on a core. It has a thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m.K at 25 C, serves from minus 50 C to plus 650 C and is hydrophobic with over 99 percent water repellency. It is used as a thin thermal break, gasket, wrap or spacer where a full blanket is too wide, for example on pipe fittings, flanges, battery modules, oven door seals and panel joints.
What is the price of aerogel tape per metre?
WedGel WAG650 aerogel tape is sold per running metre. The 10 mm x 2 mm size is INR 28 per metre (about USD 0.29) and the 20 mm x 3 mm size is INR 42 per metre (about USD 0.44); the 20 x 2, 50 x 2, 10 x 3 and 50 x 3 mm sizes are priced in the same ratio, from INR 32 to INR 74 per metre. Prices are ex-works Faridabad and exclude 18 percent GST. Select the size on this page to see its price, or ask for a project price on bulk lengths.
Which widths and thicknesses are available?
Six standard sizes are stocked: 10, 20 and 50 mm widths in 2 mm and 3 mm thickness. Other widths, 5 and 10 mm thicknesses and die-cut gaskets are slit or cut to order from the same WAG650 blanket. Send the width, thickness and total length required for a quotation.
Does aerogel tape have adhesive on it?
The standard tape is plain and is held by wrapping tension, stainless-steel bands, high-temperature tape or the enclosure itself. A self-adhesive version on a release liner and foil-faced or PET-faced versions are available on request for fitting to flat surfaces.
What temperature can the tape withstand and is it fire safe?
The WAG650 grade is rated for continuous service from minus 50 C to plus 650 C. Silica aerogel is inorganic and non-combustible; WedGel is Class A to ASTM E84 and EN 13501-1 and tested to ISO 1182. The tape stays hydrophobic and vapour-permeable, which helps control corrosion under insulation on steel pipework.
How is aerogel tape installed on pipes and flanges?
Clean the surface, wrap the tape with a 50 percent overlap for a continuous layer or butt-wrap for a single thickness, and secure the ends with stainless-steel wire or high-temperature tape. Two wraps of 2 mm tape give roughly the same insulation as 4 mm of blanket. Wear gloves and a dust mask when cutting, as dry aerogel sheds a fine dust.
