Overview

A mica roll for induction furnaces is mica paper laminated to a glass, polyester or ceramic backing and supplied on a roll. Placed between the refractory crucible and the copper coil, it acts as a slip plane: it protects the coil from refractory expansion, blocks leakage currents and makes the crucible easier to remove at relining.

The WedgeMICA WMR series comes in five constructions, from 0.2 mm to 5 mm thick, as rolls or as cut sheets.

WMR-GMP Glass + mica paper + polyester 0.2–5 mm Roll or cut sheet
WMR-GM Glass + mica paper 0.2–5 mm Roll or cut sheet
WMR-PM Polyester + mica paper 0.2–5 mm Roll or cut sheet
WMR-CM Ceramic + mica paper 0.2–5 mm Roll or cut sheet

For the induction furnace slip plane between crucible and coil, the WedgeMICA catalogue recommends WMR-GMG, WMR-GM or WMR-CM.

Mica roll price

WedgeMICA mica rolls are quoted on request. The price depends on the mica type (muscovite, phlogopite or synthetic), thickness, size or drawing, quantity and any test requirement, so every enquiry gets a firm quotation in ₹ INR and $ USD with the technical data sheet attached. MOQ and lead time are confirmed with each quotation.

Applications

  • Induction melting furnaces — slip plane between crucible lining and coil.
  • Coil protection — barrier against refractory expansion and leakage currents.
  • Relining — easier crucible push-out and coil inspection.
  • Pair with WMB-P800 rigid mica board and WMT-P800 mica tubes for coil supports, spacers and top / bottom panels.

Installation

  1. Clean the coil grout surface and check it is dry.
  2. Line the coil bore with the mica roll, overlapping joints so there is no gap through to the coil.
  3. Fit the former and ram the refractory lining as normal.
  4. At relining, inspect the mica layer and replace it with the new lining.

Why buy mica insulation from Wedge Industries Limited

Frequently asked questions

Why is mica used in induction furnaces?

Mica is placed between the crucible and the coil as a slip plane. It protects the coil from refractory expansion, blocks leakage currents and makes the crucible easier to remove at relining, while withstanding the heat radiated from the melt.

Which mica roll is best for an induction furnace?

The WedgeMICA catalogue recommends WMR-GMG (glass + mica paper + glass), WMR-GM (glass + mica paper) or WMR-CM (ceramic + mica paper) for the slip plane between crucible and coil. Coil supports, spacers and top and bottom panels use WMB-P800 phlogopite rigid board and WMT-P800 tubes.

What thickness is mica roll available in?

WedgeMICA mica rolls are supplied from 0.2 mm to 5 mm thick, as rolls or as cut sheets.

What is the difference between WMR-GMP and WMR-PM?

WMR-GMP is glass + mica paper + polyester, a three-layer construction with glass on one face and polyester on the other. WMR-PM is polyester + mica paper, a two-layer construction without the glass reinforcement.

How do I get a price for mica rolls?

Send the construction, thickness, roll width or cut-sheet size and quantity, or your furnace capacity, using the Get Price button or WhatsApp +91 97175 06848. Wedge Industries Limited quotes in INR and USD; MOQ and lead time are confirmed with the quotation.
