What is a calcium silicate board?
Calcium silicate board is a rigid, inorganic insulation board made from lime, silica and reinforcing fibre, cured under pressure and dried to a hard, machinable panel. It is non-combustible, asbestos-free and dimensionally stable under continuous thermal cycling.
Two things make it the default choice where other insulation fails. First, it carries load — compressive strength runs from 0.8 MPa in low-density grades to 12 MPa in high-density grades, so it can sit under a furnace hearth or behind a refractory lining without crushing. Second, it machines cleanly: it cuts, drills and routs to shape without cracking, which is why foundries specify it for launders, rings and casting tooling.
Wedge boards are manufactured to ASTM C533, with reference to GB/T 10699 and JIS A9510, and are rated Class A1 non-combustible with zero flame spread.

What actually moves the price
- Density. The single biggest driver. A 250 kg/m³ board and a 900 kg/m³ board are not the same product at different prices — they are different materials. Do not compare quotes without comparing density.
- Service temperature. 1100°C and 1200°C grades carry a significant premium over 650°C.
- Quantity. Pricing steps down at pallet, then at full 20′ container volumes.
- Cut-to-size and machining. Rings, discs, launder sections and drilled boards are quoted per drawing.
- Freight. Calcium silicate is bulky relative to its weight — delivered price in Chennai or Guwahati differs materially from ex-works Faridabad.
How to compare quotations fairly
The cheapest number on a page is rarely the best price. Normalise every quote to ₹ per m³ at a stated density and maximum service temperature, then check thermal conductivity at your actual operating temperature — not at 50°C, where every supplier looks good. A board that is 15% cheaper but 20% higher in conductivity costs you more in heat loss within the first year. In practice the three are complementary, not competing: ceramic fibre on the hot face, calcium silicate as the structural back-up, mineral wool for bulk fill where nothing has to carry load.
Installation
- Cut with a carbide-tipped circular saw or jigsaw; drill with standard masonry or HSS bits. Use local dust extraction and a P2/FFP2 mask.
- Butt boards tightly; stagger joints between layers in multi-layer build-ups so no joint runs through.
- Fix mechanically with stainless or galvanised studs, washers and clips on vertical and overhead work; high-temperature mortar is used for hot-face back-up joints.
- Allow for expansion in the hot face layer; do not restrain the board between two rigid faces.
- Store flat, dry and off the ground. The board is moisture-resistant, not waterproof — a soaked board must be dried before it goes into service.

Standard formats are cartoned, shrink-wrapped and palletised for despatch anywhere in India, with export packing for sea freight. Cut-to-size and machined items are quoted against drawing and typically run 3–4 weeks ex-works; standard boards ship from stock.
