Overview
A mica tube is mica paper wound on a mandrel with a binder and cured into a rigid insulating tube; cut and turned, it becomes a mica bush or collar bush that insulates bolts, studs, rods and terminals passing through hot or live parts. WedgeMICA tubes are made in three silicone-bonded grades for high-temperature duty and one shellac-bonded natural mica grade for low-temperature electrical work.

Fitting notes
- Choose the grade by the continuous temperature at the bush, not the furnace set-point.
- Allow clearance for thermal expansion of the steel bolt inside the bush.
- Machine or cut with sharp carbide tools under dust extraction.
- Ventilate during the first heat-up of silicone grades above about 300 °C.
