Overview

The Wedge calcium silicate XPS sandwich panel (CSC XPS 250) is a five-layer, factory-bonded composite: a calcium silicate cement mortar is applied over an alkali-resistant fibreglass mesh on both faces of a Wedge CCXP extruded polystyrene core and cured under controlled conditions. The facing cannot delaminate in service and the panel is equally rigid in both directions.

One panel replaces the three-trade build-up of insulation board, waterproofing membrane and cement backer board. The core delivers stable low thermal conductivity and near-zero water absorption; the calcium silicate cement facing delivers surface rigidity, fire retardance, weather protection and a rough key that bonds directly to cementitious tile adhesives, screeds and renders.

CSC XPS 250 is the grade to specify wherever the board is exposed to weather, fire risk, heavy loads or long-term humidity — roof decks, inverted terrace roofs, façades, LGSF and modular wall panels, cold-store floors and walls, pools and spas — as well as for premium interior tiling. For fully tiled interior walls the economical MXPS polymer-mortar grade is available on the same core.

Calcium Silicate XPS Sandwich Panel price

Calcium silicate XPS sandwich panels are priced per m² by thickness, core grade and board format. As the premium fire-retardant grade, CSC XPS 250 costs more per m² than MXPS but replaces the insulation board, waterproofing membrane and cement backer board it displaces, and installs in one operation. Pricing is on application — send the drawing or the floor, roof or wall areas, the thermal target and the load case for a firm quotation in ₹ INR and $ USD.

Minimum order is one pallet within India and one 20′ GP container for export: indicatively 1,300 m² at 20 mm, 860 m² at 30 mm, 520 m² at 50 mm or 260 m² at 100 mm per 20′ GP (double in a 40′ HQ). EXW, FOB, CIF and DAP terms offered.

Applications

  • Roofs — under screed, tiles or paving on flat RCC roofs; inverted (protected-membrane) terrace roofs; under metal decks in pre-engineered buildings; roof gardens and green roofs (30–100 mm, CCXP 45–70).
  • Floors — tile backer and underfloor-heating board (10–30 mm, CCXP 36–45); floors under screed; cold-store floors under the wearing slab (50–100 mm, CCXP 60–70).
  • External walls — cavity-wall and façade insulation under render or adhesive-fixed cladding (25–50 mm, CCXP 35–45).
  • Prefab, LGSF and modular panels — insulation, rigid sheathing and render or tile face in one board, fixed to cold-formed steel studs (30–50 mm).
  • Cold stores — floors and walls of chilled and frozen rooms; Sd 3.2 m and ≤0.7 % water absorption keep the insulation dry (50–100 mm, CCXP 60–70).
  • Wet areas, pools and spas — waterproof tile substrate unaffected by continuous humidity and chlorinated atmospheres (10–20 mm).

Typical build-up — tiled wet-room floor with underfloor heating

Installation

  • Floors and walls — prepare a sound, dry substrate flat to 3 mm in 2 m; score and snap the board; bed in flexible C2 cement adhesive with a 6–8 mm notched trowel; on studs fix with corrosion-resistant screws and 35 mm washers at 300 mm centres; tape every joint with 100 mm alkali-resistant mesh; tile directly onto the cement face.
  • Roofs — lay boards tightly butted in a staggered bond on the membrane (inverted roof) or slab (conventional roof); cover an inverted roof with a geotextile separation layer and a minimum 50 mm screed, paving on pedestals or 50 mm washed gravel sized for wind uplift and flotation; on metal decks fix with approved fasteners and 50 mm stress plates, five per board.
  • External walls and prefab panels — fix to masonry with adhesive plus five anchors per m², or to LGSF and timber studs with screws and washers at 300 mm centres; apply a polymer-modified base-coat render with embedded alkali-resistant mesh over the full face and joints before the finish render or cladding adhesive; provide movement joints at not more than 6 m centres.
  • Do not leave boards exposed to sunlight for more than seven days before covering; do not use solvent-based adhesives or primers on the core; do not expose the board to temperatures above 80 °C.
  • The full Wedge Application Guide for CSC XPS, with drawings and detailing at upstands, drains and movement joints, is available on request.

Frequently asked questions

What is a calcium silicate XPS sandwich panel?

It is a rigid insulation panel with a closed-cell extruded polystyrene core and a calcium silicate cement facing bonded over fibreglass mesh on both sides. Wedge supplies it as CSC XPS 250. One panel provides thermal insulation, waterproofing and a fire-retardant, tile- or render-ready surface.

What is the fire rating of CSC XPS 250?

The composite board is classified Class E to EN 13501-1, and the calcium silicate cement facing protects the XPS core. Additional fire-retardant additives can be supplied on request. The fire resistance of a complete floor, roof or wall assembly depends on the whole build-up and must be assessed against the applicable building code.

Which core grade should I specify?

Choose the core from the load case: CCXP 30 to 35 (200 to 300 kPa) for wall tile backer, CCXP 36 to 45 (350 to 450 kPa) for floors, underfloor heating and prefab panels, and CCXP 60 to 70 (600 to 700 kPa) for inverted roofs, cold-store floors and trafficked roofs. Wedge confirms the grade against the project load schedule on request.

What R-value does the board give?

Declared thermal resistance of the core is 0.29 m²·K/W at 10 mm, 0.88 at 25 mm, 1.47 at 50 mm, 2.06 at 75 mm and 2.94 at 100 mm to ASTM C177 and C518. Wedge provides U-value calculations for the complete build-up, including compliance checks against the applicable energy code.

Can it be used in cold storage and on roofs?

Yes. Water vapour permeability Sd of 3.2 m and water absorption of 0.7 % or less by volume keep the insulation dry on cold-store floors and walls and in inverted roofs, where the board sits above the waterproofing membrane and retains its full insulating value. Use CCXP 60 or 70 for floors and trafficked roofs.

What is the minimum order, lead time and HS code?

One pallet for domestic supply and one 20-foot container for export, with mixed thicknesses accepted. Standard formats ship from stock; project quantities and cut-to-size boards take three to four weeks ex-works. The indicative HS code for coated XPS boards is 3921.11.
