Overview

Ceramic blanket adhesive holds ceramic fibre blanket, paper and felt against steel, board or another blanket layer while anchors are fitted — or replaces anchors altogether on light-duty covers and appliance parts. Wedge recommends the fluid HTAL1000 WK 84/16 grade: it rolls into the blanket surface, sets in about one hour and keeps its bond to a 1,000 °C classification temperature. The paste WK 84 grade suits vertical steel surfaces and edge details.

Where the blanket sits on the hot face above 1,000 °C, joints and ropes are set in HTAL1600 refractory adhesive, rated to 1,600–1,700 °C and compatible with refractory fibre products. Wedge supplies the ceramic fiber blanket itself, so blanket, adhesive and accessories ship together.

Applications

  • Lining furnace doors, covers, hoods and flue ducts with ceramic fibre blanket.
  • Laminating blanket to calcium silicate or ceramic fibre board backup layers.
  • Appliance, oven, kiln and stove insulation where mechanical anchors are impractical.
  • Bonding ceramic fibre paper gaskets and rope seals.
  • Pipe and equipment wraps holding blanket in place before cladding.

How to bond ceramic fibre blanket

  1. Clean steel of rust scale, oil and dust; keep the blanket dry.
  2. Roll a uniform coat of fluid adhesive onto the substrate (and lightly onto the blanket face for best grip).
  3. Lay the blanket and press it in with a roller or flat board; butt joints tight.
  4. Let the fluid grade set for about 1 hour before trimming; it hardens in 8 hours and reaches full hardness in one week.
  5. On heavy or overhead linings, use mechanical anchors as designed — the adhesive holds the blanket during fixing.

Frequently asked questions

What adhesive is used for ceramic fibre blanket?

An inorganic high temperature adhesive that wets the blanket surface. Wedge recommends HTAL1000 WK 84/16 fluid grade, applied by roller, rated to 1,000 degrees Celsius and asbestos-free. For joints above 1,000 degrees Celsius use HTAL1600 refractory adhesive.

Can ceramic blanket be glued directly to steel?

Yes. HTAL1000 has a high pH that does not damage steel, so blanket can be bonded to steel casings, doors and ducts. On heavy or overhead linings, follow the design for mechanical anchors as well.

How long does the ceramic blanket adhesive take to set?

The fluid grade sets in about 1 hour, hardens in 8 hours and reaches full hardness after one week.

What temperature can the bond withstand?

HTAL1000 has a classification temperature of 1,000 degrees Celsius. HTAL1600 is rated to 1,600 to 1,700 degrees Celsius for hot-face joints.

Does it smoke when the furnace is first heated?

No. HTAL1000 is inorganic and incombustible and does not generate smoke, unlike organic contact adhesives.

Can I order the adhesive with ceramic fibre blanket?

Yes. Wedge Industries Limited supplies ceramic fibre blanket and the matching adhesive together. Send blanket density, thickness and area through Get Price or WhatsApp +91 97175 06848.

What is the price of ceramic blanket adhesive?

Wedge Industries Limited sells ceramic blanket adhesive at INR 485 per kg (about USD 5.50 per kg) with a minimum order quantity of 200 kg, so a 200 kg order is INR 97,000. Orders below 200 kg are quoted on request. Send the quantity and delivery city or port on WhatsApp +91 97175 06848 or through Get Price.
