Overview
Ceramic fibre boards are used across a wide temperature span, so a single glue rarely fits every layer. Wedge offers ceramic board adhesive in two grades: HTAL1000, an inorganic, asbestos-free glue rated to 1,000 °C whose data sheet lists ceramic fibre and fireproof stones among its applications, and HTAL1600, a high-alumina air-setting refractory cement for 1,600–1,700 °C that is compatible with refractory fibre boards and ropes.
In a typical multi-layer lining the hot-face ceramic fibre board is set in HTAL1600, while backup boards, calcium silicate layers and the bond to the steel shell use HTAL1000. Both are supplied by Wedge alongside ceramic fibre boards and high-temperature insulation boards.

How to bond ceramic fibre boards
- Choose the grade from the face temperature: HTAL1000 up to 1,000 °C, HTAL1600 above.
- Brush loose fibres off the board faces; surfaces must be dry and dust-free.
- Butter one face (and the edges for butt joints) with a thin, even layer; press the boards firmly together.
- HTAL1000: set 8 h, harden 24 h, full hardness 1 week. HTAL1600: initial set 1–2 h, final set 4–6 h.
- Follow the lining’s normal dry-out and heat-up schedule.
