Overview

Wedge HTAL1600 refractory adhesive is a high-alumina, air-setting refractory cement for service temperatures of 1,600–1,700 °C. It is used for laying refractory bricks with thin, strong joints, for sealing air and gas joints, and for bonding refractory fibre boards and ropes where the 1,000 °C limit of ordinary high temperature glues is not enough.

Being air-setting, HTAL1600 develops its initial set in 1–2 hours and its final set in 4–6 hours at ambient temperature — no heat is needed for the cure. With shrinkage below 3 % it keeps joints tight through thermal cycling. The material can also be shaped or moulded at any density, which makes it useful for quick patch repair and small monolithic linings in furnaces, reactors, kilns and investment-casting moulds.

Refractory adhesive price

Wedge Industries Limited sells refractory adhesive at ₹485 per kg (≈ $5.50 per kg at ₹88/$, indicative) with a minimum order quantity of 200 kg — a 200 kg order is ₹97,000 (≈ $1,100). Orders below 200 kg are quoted on request. HTAL1600 is supplied ready to use in a 10 kg bucket; the 200 kg MOQ is 20 buckets. Project and export orders are priced in ₹ INR and $ USD with delivery to site in India or CIF/DAP to your port.

Applications

  • Refractory brick laying — thin, strong joints in furnace, kiln and ladle linings.
  • Air and gas joint sealing in hot-face linings, burner blocks and door seals.
  • Furnace and reactor monolithic linings and fast patch repair.
  • Investment-casting mould bonding.
  • Kiln rebuild and quick repair in cement, ceramic, glass and steel plants.
  • Gas and steam turbine insulation jointing with refractory fibre boards and ropes.

How to apply refractory adhesive

  1. Remove dust, slag and loose refractory from the joint faces; dampen very absorbent bricks lightly so they do not pull water from the joint too fast.
  2. Apply a thin, even joint by trowel or by dipping the brick face; tap the brick into place to squeeze out excess.
  3. For fibre board and rope joints, butter the contact faces and press together.
  4. Allow the initial set (1–2 h) before disturbing and the final set (4–6 h) before loading the lining.
  5. Follow the furnace’s normal dry-out and heat-up schedule for the refractory system.

Frequently asked questions

What is a refractory adhesive?

A refractory adhesive is a heat-resistant cement or glue that bonds refractory bricks, fibre boards and ropes and seals joints at furnace temperatures. Wedge HTAL1600 is a high-alumina, air-setting refractory adhesive for service at 1,600 to 1,700 degrees Celsius.

What temperature can HTAL1600 refractory adhesive withstand?

HTAL1600 is rated for a service temperature of 1,600 to 1,700 degrees Celsius, with shrinkage below 3 percent.

Does refractory adhesive need firing to cure?

No. HTAL1600 is air-setting: it reaches initial set in 1 to 2 hours and final set in 4 to 6 hours at ambient temperature. The lining then goes through its normal dry-out and heat-up schedule.

What is the chemical composition?

The data sheet gives Al2O3 32 percent, SiO2 52 percent and Fe2O3 0.8 percent, with a density of 1,800 kg per cubic metre.

Can it be used with ceramic fibre boards?

Yes. HTAL1600 is compatible with refractory fibre boards and ropes, and is the Wedge grade to use for ceramic fibre board joints above the 1,000 degree Celsius limit of HTAL1000.

What is the difference between refractory adhesive and airset mortar?

Both are air-setting refractory cements. HTAL1600 is a high-alumina formulation designed for thin, strong joints at 1,600 to 1,700 degrees Celsius and is also mouldable for small repairs and monolithic linings. Tell Wedge the brick or board type and temperature and the right material will be quoted.

What is the price of refractory adhesive?

Wedge Industries Limited sells refractory adhesive at INR 485 per kg (about USD 5.50 per kg) with a minimum order quantity of 200 kg, so a 200 kg order is INR 97,000. Orders below 200 kg are quoted on request. Send the quantity and delivery city or port on WhatsApp +91 97175 06848 or through Get Price.
